I can appreciate your optimism b/c women entrepreneurs are making great strides. The problem is that while women own nearly 40% of businesses, WE EARN JUST 4% OF BUSINESS REVENUES!
There’s a huge gap and it’s a big issue. I don’t think women entrepreneurs are talking about some of the hurdles we face (including growth plans and financial/operating results) b/c we’re hesitant to discuss money, don’t want to discourage anyone (especially another woman), and often aren’t comfortable developing and/or touting growth plans b/c we worry others might think we’re arrogant.
http://www.FundHer.org is working to address the issue, but until women speak up and talk about the reality of starting and running businesses, there’s a real danger that we could garner even less revenue in the future.
Thougths?
Susan,
Thanks for your email. I completely agree. Women are not talking about the issues, but furthermore, many are not trying to do anything about it either.
By working together and formulating plans to have one another move past these issues are the ways we will see change occur.
If you were to offer up some solutions has to how to do that, what would they be?
